Principal’s Message

Welcome to Camas Prairie Elementary School, home of the Wildcats! I am excited each and every day at the opportunity to serve this outstanding community. We are a school with outstanding educators, caring families, and students committed to achieving their unlimited potential.

Camas Prairie is a “School of Achievement.” Our students are continuing to succeed in the area of reading, with approximately 80% of our fourth graders achieving standard on the 2006 WASL.  We continue to maintain our area of focus on mathematics.  Our work includes: analyzing and improving the instructional strategies we use to deliver strong instruction, learning and using the intervention programs First Steps in Mathematics and Mastering Math Facts, and utilizing some of our Title I funds to host afterschool math programs for 3rd graders. Our staff is very dedicated to education and student learning.

Camas Prairie is a “Professional Learning Community.” Staff members work collaboratively to develop the best possible learning opportunities for our youngsters. Families and community members are involved and supportive. Students take risks with their learning and push the limits of their abilities. It is through all members that we will continue the terrific gains we made last year. I truly believe that “together we can move mountains.”

Please join me in our efforts, by sending me an e-mail via the attached link, or even better by calling me.

Sincerely,

Sean McKenzie

Our Mission

We believe Camas Prairie is a community of families, staff, and students, each having a role and responsibility in the development and education of our children.

We believe in a positive learning environment where everyone feels respected and emotionally and physically safe.

We believe this can best be achieved by:

  • Teaching and modeling for students the expectations for responsible behavior in all school settings through ìGuidelines for Successî and working together to help children achieve them.
  • Viewing misbehaviors as teaching opportunities and respond to students calmly and consistently.
  • Providing positive feedback to students.
  • Working together to solve behavior problems that are chronic or severe in nature.

School Improvement Plan:

This year we made the decision to expand our goal areas to include all grade levels measured by the WASL and NCLB tests.  Therefore, we have goals for grades 3 through 6.

In 2007, 75% of third grade students, 85% of fourth grade students, 73% of fifth grade students, and 75% of sixth grade students will meet standard as measured by the reading portion of the WASL.

In 2007, 60% of our fourth grade students will meet standard as measured by the writing portion of the WASL.

Our goal is to improve student performance in the area of mathematics through the use of diagnostic tasks and appropriate learning activities.  In 2007, 65% of third grade students, 60% of fourth grade students, 45% of fifth grade students, and 50% of sixth grade students will meet or exceed standard.

To improve student learning and performance on the WASL in 2007, technology will be used to strengthen reading comprehension through a school wide collaboration plan between classroom, library, and computer lab.

Our professional learning community is commited to:

  • high expectations for students and staff
  • teamwork, collaboration, and communication
  • shared and effective leadership
  • safe and supportive learning environment
  • effective transition plans
